Drain trouble
A Mansfield CT customer gave us a call because her toilets were backing up and she noticed water pooling outside. No matter what she tried for the toilets, they just weren't clearing. We made an appointment for her the same day. Once a Rapid Service plumbing technician arrived, she showed him where the water was coming from. He exposed the main drain line that ran from the home out to the septic tank. He found that the pipe had collapsed which caused the toilets to back up and the water to pool. Further examination of the drain line revealed that it was made of an old cardboard and tar type of pipe. It is also referred to as "orangeburg." Any attempt to make a repair on this old type of pipe would only be temporary because it will fall apart again due to its age.
The solution
The plumbing team worked on a comprehensive solution for our customer. It included excavating the drain line from the home to the septic tank. The old cardboard pipe was cut out and new PVC drain pipe was attached to the cast iron. The septic tank entrance was sealed back up and the area was filled in and covered in topsoil. The work was completed in a day, with minimal disruption to our customer's schedule. The work area was thoroughly picked up before our technicians left. She only needed to call us because we provide both plumbing and excavation service.
