What you should do
As soon as you notice signs of a leaky water heater, you should locate the shut-off valve on your water heater. It will either be a turn-style valve or a lever valve. You should also shut off the gas or the electricity to it, depending on what type you have. If you are unsure how to locate any of the above, please call a licensed plumber immediately. At the same time, book an appointment to have your water heater replaced.
What to expect from your plumber
I can't speak for every plumber or plumbing company, but I can tell you what you can expect from our technicians. Before the appointment, you will be asked whether your unit is gas or electric. You will also be asked where your water heater is located, such as in the basement or in a closet. This information helps our technician to work as effectively as possible to restore your hot water. Please have the area cleared of any obstructions. The leaky water heater will be drained, the new one installed and the old one disposed of. You won't have to deal with any of the hassle!
